Every year since 2005, media and product sponsors for the building community have collaborated to educate building professionals on green building through tours and publications of a green project. These projects range from remodeling to full house construction, and display the latest techniques and products in green building. Each project receives publicity through magazine articles, awards, web site exposure, and through tours and events held during and after construction.
For the 2009 project of an EarthCraft Certified house, Mike LaBelle of AFG Builders was chosen as the builder, and Michael Tucker as the architect. The house will include many examples of “mainstream green” techniques, and advanced techniques such as a pre-cast foundation, High Performance Insulation and Air Sealing, Advanced Structural Framing, High Performance HVAC, among others. When finished this project will demonstrate to the average builder how any projects can be truly “green” while meeting the average home owner's needs. This project will be a pilot project for the Building America/NAHB research project targeting 40-70% reduction in energy usage and will be the subject of a case study and articles when complete.
